Past
Iolara was a world with two major nations. The first nation was called Casyrias, and this nation was controlled by a race of people referred to as Scientist. They were a group of people who tackled any problem through scientific applications and as such their society was very technologically advanced--especially compared to the other nations of the world. The other nation was named Virannova. The races of people that rule this nation were called magic-users, and tended to resolve every problem with magic. This allowed them to keep a more medieval type of society. These two nations did not get along. They disagreed on many things and these disagreements lead to wars breaking out between the two.
These wars were constant events with only a few years, at most, between each one. It was becoming clear this endless fighting was having an impact upon the planet. If the two sides didn't find a way to broker a more permanent peace arrangement between Casyrias and Virannova their world would be destroyed. However, both sides knew given the amount of hate that existed between the two countries that such a peace treaty was not going to happen. It was for this reason that that the magic-users decided to build up a wall that would separate Virannova from the rest of the world, and allow Iolara to heal its wounds acquired from the endless wars being fought upon it.
They, also, thought the construction of this wall would allow the animosity between scientist and magic-users to fade enough to make peace possible. The magic-user, whom decided to build this wall, did not give any warning about its construction. They were aware that by not giving any warning that they would condemn magic-user and scientist to be trapped on the wrong side of the wall, but they, also, knew revealing giving them enough time to get to the right side of the wall would give those whom wished to stop its construction plenty of time to do so. There were plenty of people whom would not want such a wall built. Some because they relished in the endless wars. Others whom believe they were deluding themselves into believing they could stop the inevitable. They were destination to end their world in fire and blood.
Then there were those whom did not believe the endless wars were having as a great of an impact upon Iolara as they believed. They claimed that the planet would destroy them before allowing herself to die. Some even believed that it was already happening. They believed that it was Iolara whom was stripping away the magic from the magic-users, and it was her that was infecting the scientist with terrible diseases and birth defect that the magic-user appeared to be immune to. There were those whom took the fact that magic-user seemed to be losing their magic or scientist were being killed off by various diseases as proof that Iolara favored one group over the other. Whatever reasons there might be for stopping the construction of the wall those whom built it knew they had to finish it before anyone could stop it.
The wall was completed without a hitch, and stood for several centuries before a hole big enough for a person to slip through appeared. This was the hole that allowed communication between Scientist and magic-user to begin anew. Each side were aware of the other. Each side knew why the wall had been built, and both side were eager to do what their ancestors had failed to do. They begun the process of creating that peace treaty. It was a long and slow process, but both sides believed they should not rush into it. They believed anything worth doing was worth any amount of time and effort to do it. This was around the time that Lanyon was born. He was born the only child of the king and queen. It was clear to everyone just how much his parents loved him, and the people of Virannova regarded him with equal affections. He was as much their pride and joy as he was his parents.
When they talked about him they described him as shining brighter than a thousand stars--a description he kept no matter how much time have passed. It was the love the people of Virannova held for him that probably lead his father to decide to allow the scientist to escort Lanyon to their capitol city of Alspic. All the talk of peace was finally coming to an end, and Lanyon's father was going to go to Alspic to sign the peace treaty. The scientist have came to pick his father up within one of their airship. Lanyon was awestruck by this ship. It appeared to him the greatest thing he have ever laid his eyes upon. He begun to bombard the scientist with questions about the airship. What was it? How did it fly? Endless questions that were probably annoying after awhile, but the scientist never showed any sign of irritation. They appeared more than happy to answer any question that the ten year old child had.
Lanyon's father than asked him how he would like flying within that airship, and Lanyon begun to bounce with the idea. He claimed there was nothing within the world he wanted to do more. It was than that his father revealed to the scientist his intention. He did not intend to be escorted to Alspic. Instead, he would find his own way to the capitol city of Casyrias, but their trip to Virannova was not in vain. They would be escorting the most precious cargo within all of Virannova---no Iolara according to Lanyon's father--to Alspic. They would be escorting his son there. His father made it clear that if any harm befell his son upon this journey that any chance of peace between their two people would be ruined. After a few moments of talking the scientists agreed to his term. Another few moments passed allowing Lanyon to say his farewell to his parent and than he boarded the airship.
The inside of the airship was just as impressive of the outside, and he begun to bombard his host with questions once again. However, it was not just questions about the airship he asked. He asked questions about the world on the other side of the wall he had lived on. What were the different countries? What were the people like in these people? What was Alspic like? What were some of the scientist custom? Endless questions flowed from his lips about the outside world and like before his host were more than eager to answer these questions. They gave him a tour of the airship, explaining ever aspect of the ship and how it helped it fly. They even allowed him to sit within the cockpit of the airship, and try his hand at flying it. Although, the pilot was the one doing most of the flying--if not all of it.
The journey to Alspic was going to take several days, and his host did everything within their power to make sure Lanyon enjoyed every leg of the trip. Within those days, they grew quite fond of him. Some even said they could understand why his people love him so. They were on the last leg of the journey when the chance of peace between scientist and magic-user shattered into a thousand pieces. It was all because of one woman's action. She was an assassin sent to kill the Emperor of Casyrias' son. He was the same age as Lanyon, and from what she had been told he was the only child upon the ship. So, when she laid eyes upon Lanyon she assumed he was that he was the one she was suppose to kill. She leaped into action, taking the fact that Lanyon was alone as the opportunity to finish her job. She knew that if she didn't do it right than that she might not get another chance before she arrived at Alspic and she was told he needed to be done before than.
Lanyon did everything within his power to fight her off, but she still managed to beat him within an inch of his life. The assassin believed that her target was done for. She believed the only thing yet to do was to make sure no one would be able to revive him, but Lanyon surprised her by managing to push himself to his feet. He stood there rather unstably, but the fact he was standing at all was a miracle within itself. He was trying to muster the strength to take a step when the next thing he knew the woman had seized him by the shoulder and was moving towards his left eye. The last thing he recalls before everything went blank was sharp pain within his eye.
However, before the assassin could complete the job the captain of the ship came rushing in. He tore her away from Lanyon and informed her what she had done. She had ruined any chance of peace. It will be upon her that hundreds--if not thousands of sons and daughters will die within a war that she had started. They brought Lanyon to Alspic where they would provide him with the very best medical care. They hoped they could somehow salvage what had been done--even if the peace treaty had would not be signed they hoped they could prevent war from breaking out. This would not be. His father upon discovering what happened to his son immediately took Lanyon back to Virannova with very few words towards those within Alspic. The only words he spoke to them were ones expressing his rage over what had happened to his son.
Once home, Lanyon laid within bed for several weeks healing from the wounds that he had received from the assassination, and when he awake he was still in pretty bad shape. The healers made it clear they were not going to mend every wound he received. No matter what they did he was going to bear scars from attack. The most noticeable one was his eye. The assassin had nearly completely ripped it out of the socket, and any attempt the healers made to restore sight into that eye was within vain. Aside from waking up with the news that he will never regain sight within one of his eyes he woke up to his people's angry voices around him. They were not happy with what had been done to him and demanded retribution. They demanded war to be declared upon the Scientist. They were not honorable. They had failed in the task that their king had assigned to them, and therefore weren't worthy of peace.
They claimed nothing the Scientist did would right this wrong. Many even said the only way justice would be served is when every last Scientist is erased from the surface of Iolara. Lanyon's father hearing his people's words declared war upon the outside world. He told his people that they would not stop fighting until every last person within Casyrias or those whom will ally with them are dead. This war immediately seized every corner of the world--even those nations that did not wish to get involved were affected by it. People rushed to one banner or another, and old hatred that the people of Iolara thought time had diminished was relit in full force.
Present
Eleven years has passed since the day Lanyon's father declared war upon the Scientist, and many people on both sides have lost their lives as an result of this war--including his mother and father. His father was killed upon the field of battle and his mother died a few days later from a broken heart. Lanyon, however, plans on carrying out this war until the bitter end. He plans on giving his people the retribution they seek--a retribution that his father died trying to fulfill. He would be lying if he said he continued this war just for his people sake. He believes, in spite, what the scientist claimed they were aware of the assassination attempt upon his life. It was a plan orchestrated by the highest authority of the Casyrian government and not from some terrorist organization like the scientist would like them believe.
Lanyon is often found upon the front line, and this endures him even more to his people. They see him as a man that is willing to fight and die along side of them. Through, his advisers are not always pleased with this decision. They believe he should stay as far away from the war--especially since his unwed. They do not wish for him to die without an heir A couple of his advisers even taken it upon themselves to help him find a suitable wife. They have sent several women to him, and Lanyon has slept with them but he has offered marriage to none of them. He knows he will eventually have to marry, and he knows it will more than likely be with a woman he is not head over heel in love with, but he sees no reason to rush into it.
